New evidence hub offers a single source for data and research

We are pleased to introduce our new RNID evidence hub, bringing together research, data, and insights from people with lived experience in a single resource. It’s the first evidence hub dedicated to providing in-depth evidence and research about people who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus.

A man wearing a hearing aid is talking to a woman sat at a table with a laptop open.

Data and evidence are a vital part of understanding and supporting the over 18 million people in the UK who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus.

Trusted data and evidence

The evidence hub is designed to provide access to trusted, up-to-date evidence, whether you want some quick statistics, or a detailed summary of published research.

As an integral part of our website, the evidence hub is available for anyone who wants to use it. We’ve designed it for people who use in-depth evidence in their work, but with short executive summaries and key statistics for those who just want the highlights.

In-depth evidence reviews

The hub introduces a new kind of content for RNID: rapid evidence reviews. These are systematic reviews of available research, including published academic research, research from charities and think tanks, and reports by UK and national governments.

We’ve presented our evidence reviews as part of evidence packs alongside key statistics, our policy statements describing the changes we’re campaigning for, and stories from people with lived experience. You’ll also find links to our latest social research reports.

We’re launching with three evidence packs on access to healthcare, employment, and public transport. We will continue to expand the hub and add more packs in future, so please get in touch with our evidence team if you’d like to discuss ideas for future topics.

A strong understanding of the evidence underpins all our work with people in the UK who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus. The hub enables us to share what we know and show that charities can use research and evidence rigorously and systematically. I hope it will be a valuable tool for anyone who works with evidence, and I look forward to expanding it in the future.”

A new way to explore prevalence data

Another exciting new feature of our evidence hub is our prevalence data dashboard. This interactive tool allows you to explore the prevalence of hearing loss in the UK.

The dashboard can be filtered by level of hearing loss, age, country, and ICB or Health and Social Care Trust. The evidence hub also has data about the number of British Sign Language (BSL) users in the UK, and the prevalence of tinnitus.

We hope you enjoy exploring our new evidence hub, and encourage you to get in touch with feedback, ideas, or to share your research.
