Support and training

We provide support and training for all our volunteers. This means you can enjoy what you’re doing and be part of a supportive community of staff and volunteers.

The support you’ll get

Whatever role you do, you’ll have a dedicated member of staff from RNID to support and guide you. Our team will help you settle into your role and you’ll get support from other volunteers as you work together.

The training you’ll get

Every volunteer will take part in an induction process, which includes:

  • an induction to your role
  • a copy of our volunteer handbook
  • access to our Volunteer Zone, an online platform where our volunteers can find key information, resources, presentations and training materials.

You’ll also have the opportunity to take part in training that’s more specific to your role. This might include training in hearing aid maintenance, or working towards a qualification from the Open College Network.

Communication

In addition to having access to the Volunteer Zone, volunteers can subscribe to our Volunteer eNewsletter and receive key updates and information from our dedicated Volunteering Development Team.

Expenses you can claim

RNID will cover all reasonable, out-of-pocket and pre-approved travel expenses that you might have to pay when you volunteer, in line with our Volunteer Expenses Policy.

These expenses shouldn’t affect any benefits you might be receiving, because they’re a repayment of money you’ve spent. If you have any concerns, please speak to your benefits advisor.
