Step Up for RNID FAQs

Is there a minimum age to take part in Step Up for RNID?

Under 18s can take part in Step Up for RNID, but we don’t market to them, and our Facebook Group is only available to over 18s. If an under 18 wants to take part in Step Up for RNID their parent/guardian must consent to their participation and supervise their challenge.

We are unable to register an under 18, so a parent/guardian of a participant under the age of 18 must register on their behalf. Additionally, if someone under the age of 18 wants to raise money online and/or join a forum, a parent/guardian must register for an online fundraising page and/or join the forum on their behalf.

Can I take the challenge on as part of a team?

Yes! Step Up for RNID as a team and split your challenge between you.

Can I choose any challenge to suit my needs? Can I take part in a wheelchair or mobility scooter?

Absolutely! It’s your personal challenge and we encourage everyone to do it to suit their needs and goals.

I don’t have Facebook, can I still join the challenge?

Of course! Complete this form and set up a JustGiving page to collect sponsorship

I’ve signed up, now what?

Once you have signed up and set your challenge, join the Facebook Group dedicated to Step Up for RNID; download your Steppers Guide, Challenge Tracker and sponsor form and you’re ready to go!

Do I have to start the challenge on 1 May, or can I start later?

You can start and finish your challenge at any time in May that is convenient for you.

How do I raise money?

Using the online fundraising page you set up when you signed up (either through JustGiving or Facebook) is the easiest way to raise money. If you’d prefer to raise money offline please download our sponsorship form.

How can I maximise my fundraising?

Our top tips for your fundraising pages are:

  • Add a photo!
  • Make it personal – tell people why you’ve chosen to do this challenge, and why for RNID
  • Line up your first donor – try and get your first donor to be above the £20 mark, this means other people will be more likely to follow suit
  • Share, share, share! – Once you’re done make sure you share that link via email, social media and whatsapp.
  • Update your page – remember you can add photos and updates to your page so people can see how you’re doing. Supporters who regularly post their progress raise on average 40% more.

How do I pay in my sponsorship?

All sponsorship raised through JustGiving and Facebook Fundraisers will come directly to RNID.

Find out more about paying in online donations.

Do I need to provide evidence that I have completed my challenge?

No, don’t worry, we trust you! You don’t need to send us any evidence that you’ve completed the challenge.

What happens at the end of my challenge?

When you’ve finished your challenge don’t forget to tell your supporters and thank them for their sponsorship. We’ll send you a digital certificate to thank you for your support – you could share it on your socials to celebrate your achievement.

I’m not based in the UK, can I still take part?

You are more than welcome to take part wherever you are based in the world. Unfortunately, we can only ship t-shirts to UK addresses.
