Are you deaf, or do you have hearing loss? Then we want you to tell us what it’s like living in the UK today.
This is the biggest survey we’ve ever run to understand public attitudes towards deaf people and people with hearing loss. We’ve asked the general public what they think about deafness and hearing loss and now – most importantly – we want to find out from our own communities about your real-life experiences.
Your opinion matters. It helps to educate, change people’s minds, and influence their behaviour. Share your experiences and help make a more inclusive society for all.

What is The Big RNID Survey?
The Big RNID Survey is the biggest survey we’ve ever run to understand public attitudes towards deaf people and people with hearing loss.
In this survey we’ll ask about your life experiences as a deaf person or a person with hearing loss.
We want to learn what assumptions, challenges and misconceptions you might face on a day-to-day basis, to help us understand what changes we need to see and make in the world.
How long is the survey?
The survey is multiple choice and should take around 15 minutes.
Why are you doing this?
We need to fully understand the experiences and challenges that people who are deaf or have hearing loss face in the UK today. The results of these surveys will shape the work we do here at RNID for years to come.
Who should answer the survey?
We want to hear from all deaf people and people with hearing loss, including deaf BSL users.
There is also a chance to win one of five £100 shopping vouchers (Terms and Conditions are below).
Is the survey translated into British Sign Language?
Yes, every question is translated into British Sign Language.

For the purposes of these Terms and Conditions, “The Promoter” refers to the Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID), registered charity in England, Wales (207720), and Scotland (SC038926). The “Prize” refers to one (1) one-hundred-pound sterling (£100) Love2Shop Voucher. The “Promotion Period” refers to the period from 23:00, GMT on 28/01/2024 until 23:00, GMT on 25/02/2024.
By entering the Give Away you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions. All entries must be received by 23:00, GMT on 25/02/2024. Five (5) winners in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland will be selected at random by The Promoter on 01/03/2024 and the winner will be notified on or after this date.
Eligibility: Open to residents in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland aged eighteen (18) years or older. Paid employees of The Promoter directly connected to the administration, promotion, or management of the Give Away and their immediate families (being a person’s parents, spouses, siblings and children), are not eligible to enter The Big RNID Survey Give Away and any entries made by such persons will be void.
How to Enter: No purchase necessary. Winners will not be required to pay to enter the Give Away. Only one entry per person per Give Away will be accepted. Each entrant shall enter the Give Away within the Promotion Period by (1) completing the relevant Big RNID Survey questions on Forsta (2) providing their email address to opt-in to participating in the Big RNID Survey Give Away. Automated or robotic entries submitted by individuals or organisations will be disqualified.
Prize: Five (5) winners will receive one (1) one-hundred-pound sterling (£100) Love2Shop Voucher. Only one prize per person per household will be awarded. Gift cards and gift certificates are subject to the terms and conditions of the issuer. The Prize cannot be transferred, redeemed for cash or substituted by the winner. The Promoter reserves the right in its sole and absolute discretion to award a substitute prize of equal or greater value if a prize described in these Terms and Conditions is unavailable or cannot be awarded, in whole or in part, for any reason.
Winner Selection: The Prize will be awarded to five (5) randomly selected winners who have entered The Big RNID Survey Give Away using a random number generator within the Promotion Period. The random drawing will be conducted on 01/03/2024 and the winner will be notified on or after this date.
Winner Notification: The winners will be notified by email at the email address provided in the entry information. Potential winners must accept a prize by email as directed by The Promoter within 72 hours of notification. The Promoter is not responsible for any delay or failure to receive notification for any reason, including inactive email account(s), technical difficulties associated therewith, or the potential Winner’s failure to adequately monitor any email account. Any winner notification not responded to or returned as undeliverable may result in prize forfeiture. The name, email address, and confirmation of eligibility of the winner must be provided to The Promoter if requested and will be shared to enable fulfilment of the Prize.
Liability: The Prize will be awarded to Five (5) randomly selected winners who have entered The Big RNID Survey Give Away using a random number generator. The Promoter takes no responsibility for any entries which are lost, delayed, illegible, incorrect, corrupted, damaged, incomplete or otherwise invalid.
