Philanthropy

Philanthropists, whether supporting us on a regular basis or choosing to make a significant annual donation, enable us to make an impact on current and future generations that are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus.

We’ve been helping people with hearing conditions for more than 100 years and have changed the lives of millions since then. We have bold ambitions and have had enough of slow progress.

Our long-term vision

Harriet Oppenheimer, RNID's CEO. She stands outside in front of some green trees and smiles at the camera.

“Our long-term vision and strategy sets out a bold ambition to find treatments and cures for hearing loss and tinnitus, and to use technology to break down barriers to inclusion for everyone. And it describes our work at three levels: changing society, changing the system, and changing lives one by one . . . please join us in our urgent work.”

Research funded by our philanthropic givers

Since 2000, we’ve invested over £28 million into hearing loss and tinnitus research and supported more than 80 early-career researchers in the UK to develop their work. Read more about some of these scientists below.

We enable huge strides in the field – and none of it would be possible without people like you.

As a scientist, I deeply appreciate those who donate to RNID. Your financial support is crucial for advancing our research. Beyond that, your involvement and enthusiasm gives us the drive to keep moving forward, especially when we face challenges during research.”

– Dr Bo Zhao, Indiana University

What you can expect from us

If you are able to donate £500 or more over the course of a year, you will have a personal point of contact at RNID and receive an exclusive biannual update, RNID Matters.

With donations of £5,000 or more, you will also receive an annual update on the impact of your donation, invitations to in-person events and have opportunities to visit laboratories and meet leading researchers.

Fifteen years ago, while researching medical-related charities and their potential needs, I could see that funding for research into deafness was insufficient . . . We have contributed to the funding of a variety of RNID’s research initiatives, many with very promising results. RNID has been exemplary in maintaining a close liasion between the donor and the progress of science. I am confident that the next decades will see a remarkable breakthrough in the treatment of hearing loss and tinnitus.”
