We’ve been working with the Electoral Commission to make the voting process as inclusive and accessible as possible. Below you can find information and advice on how to vote this July.
- If you’re a student, you may be able to register to vote at both your home address and your term-time address. Find out more
- When voting in the UK Parliament general election on 4 July, you are voting once for the person you want to represent your local area in the UK Parliament. The person, known as a candidate, who receives the most votes becomes your Member of Parliament (MP).
- On 4 July, polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm. If you are in the queue to enter the polling station at 10pm, even if you are not yet inside the building, you will be allowed to enter and vote.
- If you live in England or Wales and need support to register to vote, to apply for a postal or proxy vote, or apply for free voter ID, you should contact the Electoral Services team at your local council. You can find their contact details by entering your postcode here or by calling the Electoral Commission helpline on 0800 328 0280. BSL users in England and Wales can contact the Commission using SignLive.
- If you live in Scotland and need support to register to vote, to apply for a postal or proxy vote, or apply for free voter ID, you should contact your Electoral Registration Officer (ERO). You can find their contact details by entering your postcode here or by calling the Electoral Commission helpline on 0800 328 0280. BSL users in Scotland can contact the Commission using Contact Scotland BSL.
- If you live in Northern Ireland and need support to register to vote, to apply for a postal or proxy vote, or apply for an Electoral ID Card, contact the Electoral Office for Northern Ireland (EONI).
