RNID library

We have a collection of approximately 3,000 books and archives about deafness and deaf people.

The collection covers:

• sign language
• the education of deaf people
• diseases of the ear
• historical and literary works relevant to deafness and deaf people.

Much of the collection dates from the 19th and 20th centuries. 147 items were printed before 1801. Many items are very rare. It’s a vital resource for anyone with an interest in deaf history.

Our collection is managed and cared for by University College London (UCL)’s special collections team.
