Since 2021, we’ve been working with Contacta to make venues across the UK more accessible to people with hearing loss, from village halls to London’s National Portrait Gallery.
Contacta manufactures, installs and maintains hearing loop systems in venues. A hearing loop (also known as an induction loop) is an assistive listening technology that works in conjunction with a hearing device or cochlear implant. It cuts out all confusing background noise to allow clear, focused sound.
Find out more about how hearing loops work and the importance of businesses and venues having them.
Our partnership is helping to increase accessibility and access to information about hearing loops, as well as making venues and events (like exhibitions and live music) more inclusive to people who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus.
Contacta also donates 5% of the value of all completed orders via [email protected] to RNID.
Our partnership in action
How RNID has supported Contacta staff to check their hearing
Many of the company have taken our free hearing check.
Ran, Head of New Business Development at Contacta, says:
Due to working in the sector we are in, I am always thinking about my hearing being tested. This test was very easy to use. I will definitely check my hearing again and go to see an audiologist if a hearing loss is detected.”
For Hannah in Contacta’s design team, the results have prompted greater awareness of potential hearing loss:
The results were surprising. They showed I do have some early hearing loss. Now I’m a bit more careful with my headphone volume limit.”
All of the team who took the check commented on how easy it was to complete, and how willing they’d be to use it again if they noticed any changes in their hearing.
Contacta staff raising vital funds
Alongside helping us promote and campaign for inclusive and accessible environments for everyone, Contacta’s team also supports us by fundraising.
