Old name, new purpose: why we’ve gone back to RNID

Respite services

Short-term placements in a care home to provide a person with a change of scenery, or to offer a break to the person’s regular carers.

Our respite services are for men and women, over the age of 18, who are deaf, deafblind or have a hearing loss with additional (and sometimes complex) support needs. These include learning and physical disabilities, mental ill-health, autistic-spectrum disorders, emotional low confidence, increased needs due to age or changes in personal circumstances, and behaviour that could be described as ‘challenging’.

These planned and short-term services can provide a valuable break to a person’s regular carers, as well as offering a change of scenery to the individual, and a chance to meet new people.

Respite opportunities are limited, depending on where we have vacancies in our care homes.
